President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned of the possibility that Russia is preparing a new offensive from the north through the territory of Belarus.
According to the Ukrainian leader's assessment, Russian forces may be concentrating for a strike against Ukraine across the Belarusian border. Kyiv is intensifying monitoring of the situation in the country's northern regions.
Ukraine previously faced a Russian offensive from Belarusian territory at the beginning of the full-scale conflict.
Zelenskyy warned about the concentration of Russian troops near the Belarus border and possible preparation for an offensive on northern Ukraine. Kyiv has intensified monitoring and is rehearsing escalation scenarios, mindful of the attempted invasion through Belarus in February 2022.
A new threat from the north could distract and weaken Ukrainian defense on already strained eastern and southern fronts, as well as force a redeployment of troops and resources. Residents of northern Ukrainian regions should be prepared for possible evacuation and stricter security measures.
