During the first nine months of 2026, Kyrgyzstan registered 23 cases of maternal mortality — deaths occurring during pregnancy, childbirth, or the postpartum period, according to the country's Ministry of Health.

The rate stood at 22.1 cases per 100,000 live births — a 34.4% decline compared to the same period last year.

The Ministry of Health emphasized that, despite the positive trend, each maternal death requires careful analysis of its causes and circumstances to develop measures preventing similar cases in the future.

Ensuring access to family planning services was named a key priority. The state allocated 12.5 million soms for the purchase of modern contraceptive methods, including for women from socially vulnerable groups. The availability of several contraceptives at subsidized prices has been expanded under the mandatory health insurance system.

The Ministry is also working to improve the organization of reproductive medical care, reviewing medical documentation and reporting procedures in light of medical and social risk factors, and strengthening public education on family planning and prevention of pregnancy complications.
