The indictment prepared by the Adana Chief Public Prosecutor's Office was accepted by Adana 10th Heavy Criminal Court: defendant Mehmet K. (33) is accused of stabbing his friend Ahmet Tuncöz (43) in the Hacıkırı neighborhood on May 3rd in a manner that would cause internal organs to rupture, then driving the vehicle into rocks in an attempt to make the incident appear as a traffic accident.
According to the indictment, approximately one hour after the incident, at 20:43, Mehmet K. called his wife and told her he had "had an accident"; he only called the 112 Emergency Call Center at 21:44, reporting it solely as a "traffic accident." Contradictions emerged when security camera footage and traffic monitoring system images along the route were examined.
The defendant, who stands trial on charges of intentional homicide in the case, remains in custody. Last year in Adana, a court had handed down an aggravated life sentence in a similar case involving staging an accident.
