Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum announced the toll from forest fires that broke out in recent days: across five provinces—43 in Muğla, 20 in Antalya, 20 in Aydın, 6 in Balıkesir, and 3 in Mersin—a total of 92 independent units sustained severe damage or were destroyed; of these structures, 58 are residential homes.
Kurum stated that damage assessment work has been completed; however, the reconstruction timeline and the amount of support to be provided to property owners have not yet been announced.
Last summer in Türkiye, fires in Çanakkale and Bursa destroyed more than 50,000 hectares, and under the rapid construction program announced at that time, hundreds of homes had been tackled. Although damage figures have now been clarified on a provincial basis, uncertainty remains over when affected families will receive support. Cumhuriyet Gazetesi reported the story.
