Destici, known as the grandson of Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) founder Alparslan Türkeş, stated that anyone of Turkish descent who applies for Turkish citizenship should be naturalised by the Republic of Turkey.
The statement also emphasised integration policies and citizenship frameworks for individuals of Turkish origin abroad.
BBP Chairman Destici argued that all people of Turkish origin should receive automatic approval in their applications for Turkish citizenship. According to Destici, bureaucratic obstacles in ethnic kin integration should be removed and the state should facilitate the process.
Turkey's citizenship and migration policies, which are currently stringent in practice, could change; if families of Turkish origin migrants are closely monitoring these policies, processes could accelerate or slow down. The BBP's stance on this matter could trigger renewed debate on the citizenship issue between coalition partners and the opposition, increasing the likelihood of the government introducing changes to its migration policy.
