Diyanet references 'framework law' in Friday sermon: Warning against those 'eyeing our brotherhood'

The Directorate of Religious Affairs referenced a 12-article text submitted to the Speaker of Parliament today, without direct attribution, in the Friday sermon read nationwide. The bill, titled 'Law on Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Cohesion,' was prepared as part of the government's 'Terrorism-Free Turkey' process.

In the sermon titled 'Brotherhood,' it was stated that Turkey was being drawn into a 'ring of fire,' and a call for social unity was made against actors 'eyeing our brotherhood and targeting our affection.' The sermon coincided with a week in which the bill providing for sentence reductions on condition that the PKK lay down its weapons was being debated in public discourse.

The Directorate of Religious Affairs' issuance of sermons synchronized with political processes sparked controversy once again: a similar pattern had been observed in October 2024, the week the 'Terrorism-Free Turkey' process began.
