Geology Prof. Bektaş: 'February 6 is not over, new fracture risk on Hatay-Gaziantep line'

Following a magnitude 4.5 earthquake recorded at 03:42 on July 30 in the Nurdağı district of Gaziantep, Geology Engineer Prof. Dr. Osman Bektaş declared that the seismic threat on the Hatay-Gaziantep line continues.

Bektaş drew attention in a social media post to ongoing seismicity on the Special Strike-Slip Fault (ODF) on the east side of the plain, following the East Anatolian Fault (DAF) that broke the west of the Amik Plain on February 6, 2023. The February 6 earthquakes had destroyed thousands of buildings in Nurdağı and its surroundings; families still living in prefabricated container housing remain in the region, according to Cumhuriyet newspaper.
