The Housing Development Administration (TOKİ) has opened 1,071 social housing units in Istanbul for rental through the e-Government platform as of today. This initiative, part of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanism and Climate Change's Housing of the Century Project, stands out as the first implementation of the rental social housing model in Turkey.

According to details, the housing units are distributed across four regions: 360 units in Başakşehir, Gaziosmanpaşa, Beyoğlu and Güngören; 330 units along the Maltepe-Tuzla-Kartal corridor; 291 units in the Ataşehir-Sancaktepe-Ümraniye-Üsküdar corridor; and 90 units in Arnavutköy. Monthly rental fees start at 10,000 TL and are kept below regional market rates.

The application period runs between September 14-25 and applications will be submitted through the e-Government TOKİ "Housing/Commercial Space Application" service; no application fees will be charged. Citizens residing in Istanbul can apply to any district of their choice regardless of where they live; those living outside Istanbul are excluded from the program.

The housing units will be allocated for a period of three years. The 1,071 units rented in this phase of the project form the first portion of the planned total stock under the Housing of the Century Project, which includes 100,000 units for sale and 15,000 units for rent. Previously, TOKİ's housing operations were based solely on the sales model; the rental model sets a precedent in this regard.
