Two people drown in the Euphrates River in Siverek district, Şanlıurfa province

Derya Ülger and 5-year-old Ada Yakut drowned in the Euphrates River on the morning of July 30 after entering the water to cool off in the Taşağıl neighbourhood of Siverek district in Şanlıurfa province.
People nearby who noticed the two struggling in the water immediately alerted the gendarmerie and medical teams. Underwater search teams dispatched to the scene located the lifeless bodies during their operations in the river, first finding Derya Ülger and then young Ada Yakut. Medical personnel confirmed that both individuals had died.
The bodies were sent to the Şanlıurfa Forensic Medicine Institute morgue for autopsy. The gendarmerie has launched an investigation into the incident.
The Siverek crossing of the Euphrates is known for its depth and swift current, and similar drowning incidents are reported to occur in the region every summer. Cumhuriyet Gazetesi first reported the incident.
