Magnitude 5.5 earthquake recorded in Kyrgyzstan

The Institute of Seismology of the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic recorded an earthquake on August 12 at 13:14 local time with a magnitude of 5.5 on the MSK-64 scale (magnitude Mpv=5.5, energy class K=12.3).

The epicenter is located in Kyrgyzstan: 20 km southeast of the village of Ak-Chiy, 25 km southwest of the village of Cholpon, 38 km southwest of the village of Kochkor, and 120 km southeast of Bishkek.

Intensity in the villages of Ak-Chiy, Tuz, Epkin, Cholpon, Komsomol, and Ortokayyn reached approximately 5 points. In Kochkor, Kyzart, and Jumgal, 4 points were recorded. In Bishkek, Tokmok, and Balykchy — 3 points.

The institute reported no data on damage or casualties.
