While Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues to leverage relations with the United Arab Emirates as a diplomatic tool in both his domestic and international discourse, UAE leadership has adopted a markedly different approach — one built on restraint and staying out of the spotlight when it comes to those ties.

This divergence in approaches reflects a sensitivity Abu Dhabi understands well. The UAE seeks to preserve its relationships with Arab and Islamic nations that view the Abraham Accords — signed in 2020 and establishing formal normalization between the two countries — with suspicion. As a state keen to present itself as a hub for regional diplomacy and trade, the Emirates finds that openly advertising this relationship carries a steep political price, particularly given the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the widening arc of Arab public anger.

While Netanyahu draws on the partnership to burnish his image at home and among international supporters, UAE leadership prefers to keep its channels of communication out of the public eye — maintaining the delicate balance it has struck between the demands of its relationship with Tel Aviv and the imperatives of its broader regional standing.
