Kyrgyzstan's Interior Ministry and Russian police free citizen kidnapped in Yekaterinburg

A joint special operation by Kyrgyzstan's Interior Ministry representation in Russia and the Main Directorate of the Interior Ministry for Sverdlovsk Oblast concluded with the release of a Kyrgyz Republic citizen who was kidnapped in Yekaterinburg on August 5. This was reported by the press service of Kyrgyzstan's Interior Ministry.

According to the ministry, the victim had contacted the representation with a statement about threats and extortion of a large sum of money prior to the kidnapping. Despite measures taken, unknown individuals nonetheless captured the man and held him in a concealed location whose whereabouts could not initially be established.

During operational activities, Kyrgyz and Russian law enforcement jointly determined the location of the hostage, after which they conducted an operation to free him. As a result of the special operation, two suspects were detained — citizens born in 1993. The law enforcement authorities of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case on facts of extortion and kidnapping of a person. At present, investigative actions continue: detectives are establishing the identities of other possible accomplices in the crime.
