İlke Özyüksel Mihrioğlu brings Turkey its first European modern pentathlon championship

İlke Özyüksel Mihrioğlu won gold at the women's final of the 2026 European Modern Pentathlon Championship held at Burhan Felek Sports Complex, earning a place in the record books. The competition, composed of fencing, obstacle course, swimming, and laser run disciplines, drew 19 athletes; İlke finished first in all four segments.

Silver went to Belarusian Anastasiya Arol, and bronze to Hungarian Blanka Guzi.

This championship marks the first European title Turkey has ever won in modern pentathlon. İlke had previously earned two bronze medals at the same championships; this time, in her ninth final competition, she reached the top.

Modern pentathlon does not command a large audience base in Turkey; consequently, the championship could reopen discussions beyond sports coverage, touching on federation financing and Olympic team selection.
