Ayşe Alanur Karatepe, sister of Burkay Karatepe who is on trial for his alleged role in the assassination team targeting President Erdoğan during the July 15 coup attempt, was apprehended in an operation in Menteşe district on suspicion of harboring her brother for years.

Teams acting on the orders of Muğla Chief Prosecutor Necati Kayaközü detained Ayşe Alanur Karatepe in Menteşe district. She is the sister of dismissed Captain Burkay Karatepe, who is accused of participating in an assassination team targeting President Erdoğan during the July 15, 2016 coup attempt. The operation was conducted as part of an expanded investigation following the apprehension of Burkay Karatepe in Afyonkarahisar last week.
According to allegations by the Muğla Chief Prosecutor's Office, Ayşe Alanur Karatepe communicated with her brother using encrypted organizational methods; she provided food, medical supplies, and cash, and prepared plans for his escape abroad.
Concurrently with the operation, the hotel room where the suspect stayed, the vehicle he used, and a residential address in Eskişehir were searched; digital materials were seized. Burkay Karatepe had been detained in Muğla on August 5; investigators continue searching for weapons and ammunition that he said he buried in the Armutalan and İçmeler neighborhoods of Marmaris.
