Elazığ Livestock Breeder Ramazan Canpolat: 'Citizens Have No Purchasing Power, Sacrificial Animal Market Sluggish'

With days remaining until Eid al-Adha in Elazığ, the situation at the Sacrificial Animal Market is alarming breeders. Livestock breeder Ramazan Canpolat, drawing attention to the sluggishness in the market, said: 'Citizens have no purchasing power. The per-share prices for small and large sacrificial animals are far, far above the minimum wage.'

Canpolat emphasized that the primary factor behind the price increase is the rise in production costs. 'The producer's costs are very high, so naturally animal prices are rising too,' said the breeder, noting that the bustle seen in previous years has not materialised at the Sacrificial Animal Market this season.

According to a report by Cumhuriyet, livestock breeders in Elazığ broadly agree that sales are moving sluggishly. Cost pressures on production inputs — feed above all — have driven up sacrificial animal prices, and this sits in direct tension with consumers' purchasing power. While the approach of Eid al-Adha was expected to breathe life into the market, breeders say they have yet to observe any concrete uptick in activity.
