Samarkand hosts record-breaking FIDE Chess Olympiad: 400 teams from around the world
From September 16 to 27, Samarkand will host the 46th Chess Olympiad — the largest tournament in history by number of participants.

Samarkand will host the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad from September 16 to 27, with a record 400 national teams competing — more than at any previous forum of this kind.
The open tournament will feature 208 teams, with 192 in the women's division. The previous record belonged to the 2024 Budapest Olympiad, where 380 teams participated.
Players, arbiters, coaches, and team captains are already arriving in Samarkand. The high-speed Afrosiyo train, which reaches speeds of up to 210 km/h, as well as special buses for delegations, have been deployed to transport participants.
India will arrive in Samarkand as the defending champion following a historic victory at the previous Olympiad. Uzbekistan, as the host country, faces special expectations from the international community.
Samarkand — one of the key crossroads of the Great Silk Road — is once again becoming a venue for an international gathering: this time, a competitive one.
