The European Union Commission has imposed a €200 million fine on China-based online shopping platform Temu for violating the Digital Services Act (DSA). According to reports carried by TRT Haber and Anadolu Agency, the decision was announced today.
The DSA imposes strict obligations on large digital platforms operating in the EU market in the areas of content moderation, transparency, and consumer protection. Temu has emerged in recent years among the fastest-growing platforms in Europe on the strength of its low-priced products and had drawn the attention of regulatory authorities.
This fine ranks among the highest-value sanctions the EU has applied against Chinese platforms. Temu — which is also widely used by consumers in Turkey — is expected to review its EU operations in the wake of the ruling. The company has not yet made any public statement on the decision.
The EU Commission imposed a fine of 200 million euro on Temu for breaching the Digital Services Act. This is one of the highest-value sanctions applied by the EU to Chinese platforms.
Following this fine, it is likely that Temu, which is widely used by Turkish consumers, will make changes to its platform services or face restrictions. The decision demonstrates the EU's increasing regulatory pressure on digital platforms and could similarly affect other online shopping platforms.
