The Ministry of National Defense (MND) announced that the Blue Homeland law will be introduced. According to a statement made to Sözcü Newspaper, the draft legislation is being prepared with the aim of protecting marine areas and establishing a management framework. The Blue Homeland concept relates to Türkiye's protection of maritime law and sovereignty zones. The law is assessed to be prepared in the context of rising tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The Ministry of National Defence announced that it is preparing the 'Blue Homeland' law to legally strengthen Turkey's maritime sovereignty areas in the Aegean Sea, Eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea. The legislative draft will regulate operational authorities of naval forces, maritime border control and inter-agency coordination.
This law, to be enacted amid intensifying international disputes over energy resources and continental shelf rights in the Eastern Mediterranean, will strengthen Turkey's legal basis in maritime areas and increase its regional bargaining power. Should the law pass, regulations and inspection mechanisms concerning maritime commercial activities, fishing and energy projects may change.
